Kick-Start your day with an oatmeal matcha cappuccino for a healthy energy boost!
Feeling drained recently and struggling to maintain focus at work? The constant battle to keep your mind focused can be exhausting. We all know this feeling and we usually turn to a generous cup of coffee as a swift solution to our fatigue. Although I have a particular love for coffee, better alternatives do exist and can be beneficial to our health.
You've likely come across matcha thanks to its widespread popularity on social media in recent years, and there's a good reason for that. Matcha is very high in antioxidants and presents a wide range of health benefits (MDPI, 2021). Matcha is purported to help with weight loss, improve cardiovascular health, have anti-inflammatory effects, and potentially possess cancer-fighting properties (MDPI, 2021).
More importantly Matcha will give you a long-lasting energy boost without the “rush & drop” effect you experience after consuming coffee (Thomason, 2023). Matcha allows you to remain calm and focused while energized throughout the day.
You can prepare matcha in many ways. It is important to note that the way you prepare the matcha will determine its taste and its effects on your body. Pouring boiling water over the powder will cause it to burn, leading to an undesirable bitter flavor. You should always use medium warm water. When using matcha for the first time, consider starting with a smaller amount of powder as its particular umami flavor needs some getting used too. Do not hesitate to add honey or vanilla drops to tone down the strong umami flavor and add some sweetness. I had to experiment a few times before getting it right.
I choose to use half a spoon of matcha powder that I vigorously whisk with 1cl water until the mixtures becomes foamy. To that I add oat milk using my milk frother, and to enhance the flavor with a touch of sweetness, I include a few drops of honey or brown sugar.
After slipping into a pair of comfy leggings and a comfy sweater, I settle onto the living room couch, and savor the delight of my warm matcha cappuccino before diving into a hectic day ahead.
Stay healthy,
